January 2003

Welcome to the newsletter for Odyssey To Wholeness. This newsletter is a forum to discuss a wide range of issues regarding mind-body psychology. There is little, if anything, that does not affect the mind-body connection. That gives me, the author, wide latitude with an opportunity for fun. I rarely do things if they are not fun! If you would like to have a particular topic discussed, send me an e-mail.

1. New address and telephone numbers

Todays Message

As I work with people I notice that most doubt themselves. They believe they must depend upon someone else, including me, to give them the answers to life’s questions. They trust everyone’s opinion but their own.

We all need people who will hear us and give us their opinion. Someone else can assist in clarifying our thoughts and give us a different perspective. We must always remember that, no matter how much wisdom another may have, we still need to make our own decisions based upon our own inner wisdom.

We often doubt we have inner wisdom because of the repeated mistakes in our lives. We forget that we all have a deep well of inner wisdom. Most of us have never learned to tap into that well.

I want to share with you some ways to tap into your inner wisdom to make decisions. First, get a sense of what you want. If you are reluctant about making the decision, why? What has been your past experiences with such decisions? Next, gather information. That may mean reading articles and books or talking to various people. Who are the best people in your life to discuss certain issues. Some people are great for discussing relationships, others financial and still others for decorating. You may need to consult someone new for a new perspective on things. Third, go into your heart and “weigh” the decision. The “weight” is the amount of peace you have when you bring the various options to mind while focusing on your heart. Finally, go with the option that gives you the most peace. If more than one option gives peace, choose the one you like the best!

There are times decisions are demanded in a short period of time. Go into your heart, do a quick review of similar decisions, weigh the options in your heart and make your decision. Listen to that quiet voice within you that sends out an affirmation or a warning.

What does it mean if we thought we made the best decision and it turned out all wrong? “Turned out wrong” usually means there was pain and discord as a result of the decision. Perhaps it didn’t “turn out wrong.” You probably learned exactly what you were supposed to learn. Find the lesson in what happened and discover what could be done differently next time.
Have a wonderful 2003.

Many blessings to you and your loved ones.

Book Review

I’m almost finished reading “The New Revelations” by Neale Donald Walsch. It is a continuation of the Conversation with God series. This book asks us to examine what are called the Five Fallacies of God and the Five Fallacies of Life.

The first fallacy about God is that God needs something. Everything else we do stems from this fallacy. I had never put it in those terms, but I now realize that I’ve been thinking a great deal about God needing us to love him/her/it the last few years. For those of you who haven’t read my bio (www.OdysseyToWholenss.com) I am a cradle Catholic and was in the Convent for 20 years. We were taught, as I believe most religions teach, not to do things to offend God. What Walsch talks about in “The New Revelations” is how the concept of not offending God implies that God needs something from us and is, therefore, incomplete. If God is all-knowing, all-loving, all-everything, how can God need anything from us?

The entire concept of sin is based upon not giving God what God needs. Does God really need our love or our worship to be complete? If we worship another god, be it money, country or ourselves, does that make God less complete? A fascinating concept to think about.

How are people going to know what is right or wrong if they don’t evaluate actions by what will offend God? The answer, according to “The New Revelations,” is to eliminate the concept of right and wrong and introduce the concept of what works and what doesn’t work. Spend some time thinking about what works and what doesn’t work in your life. Use that idea as a way to make decisions for yourself--any decision, relationship, work, what you watch and listen to, anything. If we looked at what worked and didn’t work in this world, and got away from the judgements of right and wrong, we just might change some of the ways we do things.

Read the book and see what you think about the concepts offered.

Blessings to you.
